Firmware Update Troubleshooting

ambient one updates its firmware over the air (OTA) — most of the time this works seamlessly in the background. But if an update fails or your device gets stuck, this guide will help you get back on track. If OTA isn't working, you can always update via USB using the Ambient Utility app on your Mac or Windows computer.

Common OTA issues

Update stuck or not starting — Check Wi-Fi connection and battery level (at least 30%). Move closer to your router if needed, then restart the device by holding the button for 10 seconds.

Update fails repeatedly — Try restarting your router. If it still fails, use the USB method below.

Device stuck after update — Hold the button for 10 seconds to force restart. If it doesn't recover, use USB.

Updating via USB

Download Ambient Utility (Mac and Windows) from the link above. Connect your ambient one via USB-C, open the app, and follow the on-screen instructions. Takes under a minute.

Update Tips

  • Make sure your device has at least 30% battery before starting a firmware update
  • Keep the device within range of your Wi-Fi router during OTA updates
  • USB updates always work — even if OTA fails repeatedly, your device can be recovered
